Overview
Australia offers several visa subclasses to allow partners, children, parents, and other relatives of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to join their family.
- Subclass 309/100: Partner (Provisional + Permanent) visa – Apply from outside Australia
- Subclass 820/801: Partner visa – Apply from within Australia
- Subclass 143/173: Contributory Parent visas
- Subclass 101/802: Child visas
- Subclass 115: Remaining Relative visa
Partner Visa (Spouse / De Facto)
This visa allows the spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible NZ citizen to live in Australia temporarily and then permanently.
Basic Eligibility
- Genuine and continuing relationship
- Married or in a de facto relationship (at least 12 months)
- Health and character requirements
- Sponsorship from your partner
Visa Process
- Step 1: Apply for temporary visa (309 or 820)
- Step 2: Live in Australia and wait 2 years
- Step 3: Apply for permanent visa (100 or 801)
Processing Time: 10–20 months
Cost: From AUD 8,850
Parent Visa
Allows parents of settled Australian citizens or PRs to live in Australia permanently. These visas usually have long waiting periods.
- Subclass 103: Parent Visa (non-contributory)
- Subclass 143: Contributory Parent Visa
- Subclass 870: Temporary Sponsored Parent Visa (up to 5 years)
Child Visa
Allows children of Australian citizens/PRs to migrate permanently.
- Subclass 101: Child Visa (from outside Australia)
- Subclass 802: Child Visa (within Australia)
Children must be under 18, or full-time students under 25 and financially dependent, or unable to work due to disability.
Documents Required
- Valid passport
- Proof of relationship (marriage certificate, photos, joint finances, etc.)
- Police clearance
- Medical exam results
- Form 888 – Statutory declarations from friends/family

- Fill the application form with your sponsor
- Attach all supporting documents
- Pay the visa fee
- Wait for assessment and further instructions
