UK Family Visa

Overview

The UK Family Visa allows non-UK nationals to join a family member in the UK. This includes spouses, civil partners, children, and in some cases, adult dependent relatives.

Types of Family Visas

💍 Spouse or Civil Partner
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Unmarried Partner (2+ years relationship)
👶 Child (under 18, dependent)
👵 Parent (if child is under 18 and British)
👴 Adult Dependent Relative (in rare cases)

Eligibility Criteria

Your partner must be British or have ILR/pre-settled/settled status
Minimum income requirement of £29,000 (as of July 2024)
Proof of genuine relationship (photos, chats, joint documents)
Meet English language and accommodation standards

Required Documents

Passport and visa application form
Marriage certificate or evidence of partnership
Bank statements showing required income
English language test certificate (IELTS Life Skills A1/A2/B1)
Proof of adequate accommodation
Photos, chat history, travel history together

Fees & Timelines

Visa application fee: £1,846 (outside UK), £1,048 (inside UK)
Immigration Health Surcharge: £1,035/year
Processing time: 2–3 months (priority: 5 working days for extra fee)
Visa valid for 2.5 years, then extension needed
Can apply for ILR after 5 years on Family route

If Your Application is Refused

You may have a right of appeal if refused. You can submit additional documents or apply for an Administrative Review or appeal to the Immigration Tribunal.
